The McRae Block
The McRae Block
If a town did not have an Opera House in the early twentieth century, it was not considered a real town. In keeping with that spirit, Alexander Bell McRae chose to relocate his home three blocks from the corner of Lincoln and Main Streets in order to construct a first-class structure in the heart of town that would be known as Roseville's Opera House.
The McRae Block
Many activities have taken place in the upstairs half of the building since it was erected in 1908, including live theatre, a roller-skating rink, semi-pro boxing contests, and even the local newspaper, but there has never been an opera. Mr. McRae's real estate office, and eventually many businesses, were located on the lower level. The McRae building is still standing as a monument to Roseville's heritage.
